3 Ways to Encourage Safe Dialogue at Home πŸ‘‡ Ta 3 Ways to Encourage Safe Dialogue at Home πŸ‘‡ Talking about controversial, charged or triggering topics is difficult anywhere, but that can be especially true at home, where we're the most vulnerable. Here are 3 ways to discuss topics you care about WITHOUT prompting arguments or tense words: 1️⃣ Set ground rules Start by stating that no matter what you believe, you respect others' views and opinions. It's always okay to ask for clarification before sharing your opinion, and/or speak up if something is unclear. 2️⃣ Practice active listening Use mindfulness techniques like box breathing to stay fully present and engaged. This will create a safe and supportive environment for dialogue. 3️⃣ Ask questions Show that you're interested and paying attention, but allow the other person to answer and take the lead. You can always ask questions to come from a place of understanding instead of judgment. What else are we missing? Throwback to our wonderful evening celebrating AAP Throwback to our wonderful evening celebrating AAPI + Jewish Heritage! In May, we gathered at the Korean Community Center to enjoy a celebration of both AAPI and Jewish culture. May is both Jewish American Heritage Month & Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month. There were 5 cultural performances by the Kaplen JCC Dance Team, the Kaplen JCC Youth Choir, and traditional Indian, Korean and Chinese dance groups. Performances were followed by small group discussions. All-in-all, the night was a beautiful testament to the power of community. We learned, laughed, and grew in cultural awareness together.
