Lag BaOmer is a festive day on the Jewish calendar. The day celebrates and honors the life of Rabbi Shimon bar Yochai who was a Mishnaic sage back in the 2nd century and author of the Zohar. It is celebrated with outings, bonfires, parades, and other joyous events. The bonfires symbolize the fiery and sacred teachings of the Zohar that he preserved and transmitted.
